TWO MEN DROWNED
FATAL FISHING TRIP
ROWING BOAT SWAMPED

WAIHI, This Day.
Two men out of a party of four who were fishing from a 14ft rowing-boat in Bowentown Channel, opposite the camping area, were drowned on Saturday evening. They were George Andrew Chalker, aged 55, miner's pensioner, and Henry Hill- Saussey, miner, Waihi, aged 34. • .
When pulling up the anchor with a strong outgoing tide, the bow of the boat was pulled down by the weight of the anchor. It was partially submerged by a wave and swamped, and the four men were thrown into the water. The survivors,- Ben Morris, miner, and Septimus Henderson, miner, after a hard struggle, succeeded in reaching the'shore about a quarter of a, mile away, Henderson receiving severe cuts and abrasions in scrambling up the rocks. Morris landed on the beach, and escaped injury. Botti men are suffering-severely from shock, and are still confined to.their beds..
.Chatter's body was discovered on the beach about a mile from the Bowentown Heads. So far there is no trace of the other body.
All four were married men. Chalker, who was a native of Goulburn, New South. Wales, leaves a, widow and a grown-up daughter, and a young son, age 2. Saussey leaves a widow' and three young children..
