? NO SURRENDER

WffiLi WIN IN THE EN®

CHINESE CONVICTION I % ■■■ —. i

(Received December 17, 12.45 p.m# HANKOW, December 16.

Che "Chinese Generalissimo (General Chiang Kai-shek), broadcasting to the nation, said: "No matter how the situation changes, the Chinese must not surrender. We are convinced that the present situation is favourable to China. Prolonged resistance is not to be found at Nanking or the big cities, but in the villages throughout China and in the fixed determination of the people. The time must come when Japan's military strength will be completely exhausted, thus giving China victory."

He added that since the opening of the campaign the Chinese armies had sustained 300,000 casualties. The loss of civilian life and property could not be computed.
