NEW RAILWAY CARRIAGES
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, December 3.
Carriages of entirely new and greatly improved design are shortly to be put into commission on the Main Trunk service. The new second-class carriages, which have been constructed at the railways workshops at Otahuhu, are expected to be in use before Christmas, but first-class-carriages will not be completed until early in the New Year.
Roomier than their predecessors, the new second-class carriages are 56 feet in length, compared with the 50 feet of those already in use. The width will be approximately the same, but improved seating accommodation has been provided.
