OVERSEAS LEAGUE

DUKE AND DUCHESS OF KENT

HEADQUARTERS' RECEPTION

(From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, November 6.

The Duke of Kent, who is the new president of the Overseas League, attended a reception at Overseas House this week, accompanied by the Duchess of Kent. He had expressed the desire to meet as many members of the league as possible, and 1500 were present, representing all parts of the Empire and British communities in foreign countries. Two rooms were occupied by New Zealanders, among them being Colonel E. ff. W. Lascelles, chairman of the New Zealand group, and Mrs. Lascelles, and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Rolleston,

The Duke and Duchess were received by Lord Goschen, chairman of the Overseas League, Lady Goschen, and Sir John Tilley, vice-chairman of the league.

At the conclusion oi the visit the Duke sent the following message to the members: —

"The Duchess of Kent and I are glad to have this opportunity of paying our first visit to Overseas Housse, the world herjlquarters of the Overseas League, of v,f. ich I accepted the presidency when the present King, my brother, succeeded to the Throni> I congratulate the many thousands of members whose generosity enabled you to have the new building ready for the Coronation and for the benefit of the large number of overseas visitors who were with us this summer. We are equally glad today to meet such a large number of members representing every corner of the Empire, and the British communities in foreign countries, ranged in rooms such as tine Hall of India, contributed by Indian Princes and other members, the St. Andrew's Lecture Hall, ' the gift of Scottish members all over the world, and the Ulster Heading Room, that has been presented by Ulster members. We wish the Overseas League all further success in the valuable work it is doing to promote even closer friendship and understanding among the scattered peoples of the British Commonwealth, whom we feel to be one great family."
