MAIN HIGHWAYS
"EXPENDITURE JUSTIFIED
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day. An answer;to those who criticised the expenditure af money on the . improvement 'of main ■.■' highways was given by Mr. M. H. Wynyard, ..representative of the motorists on the Main Highways Board, when speaking at a conference in .Palmerston North yesterday. "We are spending the motorist's money for his benefit," he Stated, "and it has to-be ;remembered that the main highways carry, over 80 per cent, of the traffic in the rural areas. I also view the tourist traffic as one of New Zealand's best revenue-earning industries, and encomiums passed by tourists who use Our roads will be a big Inducement for others to come to this country."
