BOXING

HUTT HIGH SCHOOL

The finals of the Hiitt Valley High School boxing championshin were held yesterday afternoon. The trophy for the most scientific boxer was won by W. H. Wilson. Other promising boys were J. Liver and A. Avis. The judge was Mr. G. J. McNaught. Also present were Dr. Parr and Sergeant J. W. McHolm. Results were as follows:— Class 9.— J. Liver, who was superior both in attack and in defence, defeated P. Davison. Class B.—A. Willis was too cool and collected for H. Westbury, who was aggressive, but failed to connect with many of his blows. Class 7.— F. Peard gained the decision from C. Cairns after an even bout, in which there were not many exciting moments. ■ Class 6.— J. Gillingham beat R. Woods in a bout in which there was too much sparring. Class 5.— W. H. Wilson was more polished and effective than J. Beattie and won comfortably. Class 4.—A. Avis had a longer reach than F. Instone, and this kept him ahead. Class 3.—Semi-finals: D. Natusch beat A. Griffin; K. Gething beat M. Griffin. Final:- Natusch beat Gething. Class 2.— J. Wilson gained the referee's nod in an even bout. His opponent was D. Richardson. Extra time had to be allowed. • An exhibition bout was given by J. Guiney and J. Hay in class 1. It was I stated that Guiney was the heaviest 1 boxer in the school, so it was not possible to match him except in an exhibition,
