GOVERNMENT GRANTS
AGRICULTURAL COLLEGES
The Government's decision to grant £27,000 from the vote of the Department of Agriculture towards the upkeep of Massey and Canterbury Agricultural Colleges was announced today by the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. L. Martin).
The Minister said that there appeared to be some misapprehension as to the Government's decision, and one statement in the Press has indicated that £26,000 was being provided out of the Department's vote for Canterbury Agricultural College alone. The total allocation for the two colleges was £27,000, and the details of its apportionment would be set out in the Supplementary Estimates.

The estimated profits, if the company had got' going, were about £400 a mile, and there were many miles of road requiring attention.
