CHRISTCHURCH FIGURES

CHRISTCHURCH, November 30,

Last year's heavy death-roll at Christchurch, the highest since 1918, the year of the influenza epidemic, will be • exceeded this year by considerably more than 100. Statistics supplied by the Christchurch oi Births, Deaths, and v Marriages today showed that, with another month's figures yet to be included, the deaths registered at the Christchurch office in 1937 had reached a total of 1491, compared with 1423 for the whole of Ifi36. Deaths in 1918 numbered 1657.

For the eleven months of 1937 the figures are as follows (those for the corresponding period last year in parentheses) :—Births, 2107 (1196); deaths, 1491 (1314); marriages, 1297 (1187). '
