ANGLO-GERMAN TALKS

SEARCH FOR PEACE

(United I'T'-ss. Association—"By Elcctrto

(Received November 26, 9.50 a.m.)

LONDON, November 25,

The Prime Minister announced in the House of Commons that the visit of Lord Halifax to Germany will be one matter to be discussed with M. Chautemps, the French Premier, when he visits London. No agreement or understanding with Germany which might affect the security of France or her Allies was contemplated.

"The Timfes," in a leader, says that the visit of the Premier and Foreign Minister of France will allow of a'most opportune consultation in the vyidest terms between the two Governments, which have an equal interest in easing European tension.: The conversations in Germany, if all goes well, will engage Paris as well as London and Berlin in a new search for appeasement, nor are they in the least compatible with the conversations with Rome. British policy certainly will not lend itself to the allegation that it is trying to play off Rome and Berlin against each other nor that it is seeking to undermine the axis. ,
