EASTBOURNE TRANSPORT
Reporting to the meeting of ths Eastbourne Borough Council last evening, the Town Clerk and general manager (Mr. C..L. Bishop) said that during October the traffic receipts in the: ferry department were approximately; the same as for the corresponding month of last year and the total for the seven months was approximately: £200 lower. With-, the. expenditure approximately £900.higfeer, me position at the end of the month was still; approximately- £ 1100 worse ( than for the corresponding period'of last yekr. Unfortunately the weather for Labour. Day was not suitable for travel to the. bays or otherwise --"a- -fairly- -substantial increase in revenue might have been shown tor the month. •;
In the omnibus --.■ department, the traffic for the month was very steady and despite unsatisfactory weather for Labour Day. the increase in traffic revenue was maintained and the increase in revenue still continued to meet the increased costs.. .-■-■■
To the end of October a total of £8160 had been collected. on-account of rates, as against £7*B£ --for- the same oeriod of the last financial year. The collections • were proportionately higher in keeping" with.the "^higher rate levies.
The collection of arrears was being concentrated.., on arid they were now coming to hand better than during the' earlier months. ■
