RETURN FLIGHT

CLOUSTON AND MRS. GREEN

LEAVING FOR LONDON TODAY

(Received November 18, 10.25 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, November 17.

Flying-Officer Clouston and Mrs. Kirby-Green, who created a flight record from London, are leaving for London on the return journey at 8 a.m. tomorrow They hope to reach Croydon on November 20, breaking the record for a flight to the Cape and back and also the record of 4 days 20 minutes set up by Mr. H. L. Brook for the flight from the Cape to London.

Mr. Clouston and Mrs. Kirby-Green had a terrific welcome when they landed at Wingfield airport, Cape Town, Twenty thousand people thronged round the machine and endangered it.

Mr. Clouston said the machine behaved beautifully.

The flyers did not arrive at Broken Hill till 5 a.m. because they were delayed at Khartoum, where they discovered that they did not have a permit to cross the Sahara. They were forced to chase round Khartoum for four hours to locate authorities who were able to issue permits.

The Secretary of State for Air, Lord Swinton, telegraphed: "Best congratulations on your fine performance."

Miss Jean Batten's message was: "It is almost unbelievable I hope your luck holds out on the return."
