DAY IN PARLIAMENT
TWO IMPORTANT BILLS
Urgency was accorded thirteen classes of the Estimates in the House of Representatives yesterday, but the most interesting matters to be considered were the Finance Bill and the Petroleum Bill, both of which were introduced a few minutes before 9.30 p.m. The discussions on the Estimates for the Public Service Commissioners' Office, the External Affairs Department, the Department of Agriculture, the Lands and Survey Department, the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Account, and the Land for Settlement Account, which occupied members until the Bills were introduced, were not particularly animated at any stage and the 'House would have presented a very dull aspect if it had not been lightened by the appearance of summer garb in several places, the member for Wanganui (Mr. J; B. F. Cotterill) taking first place in this'respect by wearing a light blue blazer. A total of £1.373,069 was voted for the six classes mentioned before the Bills were introduced, and after the two measures had-been discussed for approximately forty minutes the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) evidently considered that a fair day's work had been completed and adjourned the House at 10.10 p.m.
