METHODIST SYNOD

MASTERTON, November 16.

The Methodist (Wellington District) Synod opened its, deliberations today. The following ministerial probationers were advanced a year in their course: The Revs. 0. E. Burton, J. S. Willoughby, H. J. Tozer (Welliegton,), and R. Thornley (Lower Hutt).

The following were received by the Synod for recommendation' to the conference for acceptance as candidates for the ministry:—Messrs. W. Long (Porirua),- G. V. Thomas (Kiripuni), H. Whitfleld (Paraparaumu), Mr. Thomas to receive -theological training and Messrs. Long: and Whitfield .to be placed on ministerial probation.' ' : - \ . -•

The. suggestion was made1 by ' the Rev. H. T. Peat that more attention, should "be paid'by ministers of the church to the ; selection of suitable young ministers -for chaplaincies in training corps-. • '

In the evening a civic welcome was extended fo the Synod by the Mayor (Mr. T. Jordan) assisted- by the minister of the Masterton Church. Addresses were also given by the Rev. Robert Thomley and by Mr. &. R. Seddon. _■
