AN EASY DISH
Spanish'soup is an easy dish, and a very nice one, too, for those who.like it. ...'■.
Slice four good-sized onions, four tomatoes, five carrots, two potatoes, and a turnip. Fry them all together in olive oil in a saucepan until they are nice and soft. Flavour with two bay leaves, pepper (not much), and salt. ,
Pour in a quart of boiling stock or water, and when ;*" comes to the boil add a few pieces of macaroni. Simmer gently for two hours. A quarter of an hour before it is done add a dozen runner beans cut into squares.
When the soup is actually in the tureen sprinkle on top of it a clove of garlic very finely chopped;
