SAFETY BARRIERS
SCHOOL ENTRANCES
A memorandum 'from the Education Department intimating that, the Department's view is that expenditure on the provision of safety barriers at school entrances should be met out of the grant for the maintenance of school buildings, was received by the Education Board today. No difficulty was likely to arise, in regard to the legality of such payments, the memorandum stated. . . ■
Colonel T. W. McDonald said it appeared to him that the barriers were a departmental responsibility. He suggested, that the matter be looked into further.
The chairman (Mr. W. V. Dyer): We have spent- money on them. With rapidly-increasing transport difficulties, said Colonel McDonald, he thought the position should be reconsidered.
The chairman: It is not a big item. The point that concerned us is really the legality of the payments. The matter was not pursued further.
