AUCKLAND HOSPITAL
PROPOSED CHANGES
NOTICES OF MOTION
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, November 16.
Radical changes in ] the administration of the Auckland Hospital were recommended to the Hospital Board by a special committee set up to consider the. final points raised last ,year in a report on the organisation of the institution by Mr. G. Gray Campbell, public accountant. Among the suggestions was the appointment of a chief managerial executive at a high salary and the abolition of the office of medical superintendent, at present held by Dr. Craven, and the .selection of a director of surgery and director of medicine.
Notices of motion which would give effect to the proposals were presented by the chairman, the Rev. W. C. Wood. However, strong arguments were adduced to defer consideration, and it was-decided, on the casting vote of the chairman, to discuss the question in committee at the next meeting of the board.
The notices of motion by the chairman were as follows:—(1) That those employees of the board who have reached -the retiring age .or period be given three months' notice of termination of their engagement, the board to consider.the terms of their-retirement at a meeting in committee on December 7; (2) that the Minister of Health be asked to approve of .the appointment of a physician as medical director and a surgeon as surgical, director at salaries of £1500 per annum, rising to £2000 at the end of one year; (3) that the resolution passed on September 29,1936, fixing.the salary of the proposed man-ager-secretary at £1200 per annum, rising to £1500 per.annum by yearly increments of £100, be rescinded and that the salary :be fixed at £1500, rising to £2000 at the end of one year.
