SHANGHAI, November 16. One hundred and fifty thousand more Japanese troops have arrived.
The Japanese have appointed a new Mayor and chief of police for \ Greater Shanghai, both Chinese with Japanese sympathies. The municipality refuses to recognise them, describing them as puppets.
The fighting at Soochow has lulled,
Heavy Japanese air raids are reported on Tsinan, capital of Shantung. Trte defenders have been ordered to hold on to their positions, but preparations are being made to move the capital to Ningyang if Tsinan falls.
A Tokio message states . that the Japanese have taken Chiaoshan, five miles north-east of Sinan, near Paoting-fu.
