OBITUARY

MR. W. G. MOORE

SYDNEY, November 8.

The death has occurred of Mr. William George Moore, a distinguished figure in the history of Australian art and drama, aged 69 years. He was the husband of the writer Dora Wilcox. • Mr. Moore was born at Bendigo, Victoria. He went on the stage and toured the United States and Great Britain, taking part in Shakespearean revivals at the Queen's Theatre, Manchester. He was art arid dramatic critic on the "Herald," Melbourne, for some years, and was the founder of Australian Drama Nights in Melbourne. From 1912 he resided in London. During the war he served with the British Army Service Corps. He contributed to several London journals and was a member of Granville Barker's dramatic company for three seasons. From 1921 to 1926 he was art critic of the "Daily Telegraph," Sydney. In 1934 he was awarded the Society of Artists' medal for distinguished services to Australian art.. His publications included "Moonlight" and other one-act dramas, "City Sketches," "Studio Sketches," and "The Story of Australian Art." i
