RABBLE'S LATE RUN
CLENOGIL A BIT UNLUCKY
Rabble came fast from the middle of the field in the last furlong and a half to win the Strowan Plate, lor maidens, by a neck from Glenogil, but the latter Was probably unlucky to lose througn running wide when making tne straight. It was nevertheless a pleasing effort by the winner, who drew a wide marble and was running on better than anything a heck in front at the judge. Rabble,, who suffered an injury when a youngster, began racing only a few months ago,, and he had . previously been twice placed in four outings. He is a three-year-old . chestnut son of Rabbi, after the stamp of his sire, and his dam is the Shambles—Judith mare Jael, a useful highlight ,'performer some years back. Judith was,a daughter of imported Hebrew Maid, hence a half-sister to Lovelorn, the, gran dam iof Wotan, Game Carrington, and Peter Jackson. It is a family, that is proving one of the stoutest lines ;in the present Stud Book. :- ■■"■,' Though sire and dam have names suggesting there might be inbreeding in Rabble, the two families are quite I different. Rabble is. owned by his breeder.XMr. E. W. Spencer, of Reefton, who is at.present abroad, and he is trained by C. C. McCarthy at RiccarGlenogil drew wider than the winner but she started, from, closer in, as Rabble went right to ; the ; extreme outer. She began , very brilliantly, soon ranging outside ■ Mulatto and Screamer in the van, but when she ran out crossing to the straight she lost several lengths, which, undoubtedly cost her the race. When straightened up shs came again and cut down the leaders about a hundred yards from the post, but then she had no reserve when challenged. A three-year-old half-sister by Colossus to Red Heckle, she promises to develop into a useful galloper. Mulatto and Screamer had. every chance. In the fight for third money, two lengths back/ Screamer hung on a shade the better,. Pol Roger, always well Up, was a fair .fifth;., but the favourite, Kindly, after being prominent on the outer behind the leaders to the straight, faded out; Love Affatr, Mob Rule, Ardmoyle, and Sunbeam (who w.as interfered ■■ with near the finish^ were best of the rest.' Haeropo was badly left at the start,. .. ,
