REFUSAL TO SERVE
WOMEN JURORS
SHERIFFS COMMENTS IN INDECENCY CASE
(Received November 9, .12.50 p.m.)
LONDON, November 8.
Women jurors made legal history by refusing to serve in a case of indecency at Paisley.
The Sheriff, Mr. Hamilton, said:."A considerable number of years ago women made what I venture to describe as a great fuss for. the very purpose of being allowed to •do this sort of thing and not being set aside from this sort of work as'if there was a distinction in the intelligence of men and women, but by their refusing to do what twenty years ago they were so anxious to do, we are left in the position that we are unable to try this man, and witnesses and counsel will have to-come back." The adjournment was taken, and a new jury is to be empanelled.
