The. chairman of United Provisions, Ltd. (Mr. T. J. Jones) said, at. the annual meeting in Melbounre last week, that, keen competition had been largely responsible for the lower earnings of the company last year. Drought 1 conditions, especially in Queensland, irr the second half of the year, had also affected 'trading. Mr. Jones said that considerable expansion was being carried out in New Zealand. Prospects there were bright. The export trade in provisions to the East and to Britain was being well, maintained.
