LEVIN MEMORIAL HOME

Theft was a,very pleasant gathering yesterday afternoon at the annual gift tea of the Levin Memorial Home, Berhampore, and; many donations and parcels of'fruit, groceries, jam, and vegetables were received from the friends who attended. • Miss Archibald (president), in welcoming the guests, said how sorry the committee was that Mrs. Peter Fraser had not been able to open the tea on account of illness, and hoped she would have a speedy recovery. "She also spoke of the great loss the Home had sustained by the death of Lady Luke and paid a tribute to the splendid work so long carried on by her. Miss Archibald stated that through the generosity of Lord Nuffield, and the trustees of the estate of the late Mr. W. G. Brown, a playroom had been built, which had proved' a "great boon to. the children and provided a long-felt want. : The Rev, 81.B 1. A. Tooley gave an Interesting address on the work of the Home, saying that the happy, brightfaced '. girls showed the care, and tention bestowed on them' by Miss Bichardson (matron) and heir assistants, Miss Barton and Miss C. Campbell. The girls gave much pleasure to the visitors by the songs and other items which they rendered. They had been trained by ■ Miss Diamond and a demonstration, of first aid and home nursing given by the elder girls showed the careful teaching they had received from Miss Osborn. , The rooms were fragrant and gay with the beautiful flowers that Mrs. Gillespie, Mrs. Dv Pont, Mrs. Mayer, and Mrs. Tanner had procured, and which found a ready sale. Mrs. Archibald and Mrs. G. Luke, assisted by Mrs. Harry Longmore, Mrs. Edwards, Miss Archer,, and Mrs. Lyons, had a plentiful supply of home-made cakes for sale. The cake competition was won by Mrs. Shepherd. Helping at the children's stall were Miss D. Greenwood, Mrs. Poole, and Miss Morrah, the articles on view attracting many buyers!. Mrs. Levin and Mrs. Gillingham were in charge of the home-made sweets stall. The following committee provided afternoon tea:—Miss Young and Miss Barry, assisted by Miss McDougall, Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. K. Young:, Mrs. Shepherd, Miss Johnsen, Mrs. A. Young, Mrs. Macarthur, Miss McLeod, and Mrs. Ha2elwood. Donations of money and the profits from the' various stalls amounted to £78 Is, besides other useful gift* received.
