INTERRUPTED DEBATE
TRANSMITTER AT FAULT
The interruption of the broadcast of the speech of the Prime Minister by station 2YA from Parliament last evening was the subject of a statement by Mr. E. C. Hands (business manager of the National Broadcasting Service) today.
"At 8.17 o'clock a fault developed in the transmitter at Titahi Bay which caused a 'hum,'" said Mr. Hands. "At 8.2 Oo'clock an announcement was made to the effect that the fault would necessitate going off the air, but that this would not be done until the Prime Minister's speech had concluded. However, a fuse blew at 8.22 o'clock and the station went off the air. The Parliamentary broadcast was immediately transferred to station 2YC until the fault was rectified; At 8.44 o'clock the fault was cleared, a burnt-out resistance having been replaced, and the Parliamentary broadcast was again taken up by 2YA."
The discussion in Parliament on the above subject is reported on Page 9.
