TRAINING OF YOUTHS
POSITION UNSATISFACTORY
At last night's meeting of the.Board of Managers of the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College, Mr. E. W. Campbell asked if the board had received any further notification of the progress, "being made by the Goverrittient in its scheme\for the training of youths who during the depression had lost their opportunity for training. He had noticed that tradesmen were being imported into the Domin-, ion, and he considered that it'was time some action was taken- in the training of Dominion youths. V The chairman of the board stated that the board had received no further information and invited lifr. P. Warner, a member of the committee set up by the Government^ to state the position. Mr. Warner said that the committee had encountered difficulties from' both employers and employee* in regard to the system and that progress had been delayed. The position was unsatisfactory. It was pointed out by members of the board that though the college had offered to co-operate it had not, at the present time, accommodation 7to meet the needs of such classes. It was finally decided to write to the Government asking what progress had been made and to point out the necessity of advising the college as early as possible so that it could make provision for instituting such training classes.
