The "Herald's" Melbourne correspondent says that 107,000 people saw the gallant little bay The Trump make racing history by winning the Melbourne Cup in time that came within a quarter pf a second of the Australasian record. Not only was it The Trump's sixth successive victory, but it meant that he equalled the performance of. Poseidon, the only horse who had previously won the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in the one year. The Trump has won £14,380 in stakes since June. In less than a month he has won the Toorak Handicap, the Caulfield Cup, the McKinnon Stakes, and the Melbourne Cup. No other horse has won the Toorak. Handicap, Caulfield Cup, and Melbourne Cup in the one year. Two years ago it was considered that The Trump might never become a sound horse. He broke down so badly after the Caulfield Guineas in 1935 that he was gelded, and his injured knees were fired, and he was turned out. Even as late as June he was,of little account, but today, although by far the smallest horse in the field, he was one of the best-looking.
