BIBLE SOCIETY
( ENCOURAGING RESULTS
Mrs. E. A. Israel presided at the annual meeting of collectors of the Wellington East branch of the British and Foreign Biblj Society, and gave a most satisfactory report of the work. Owing to illness and removals from the district the members had been faced with many, difficulties, but, in spite of all, the' work: had- been most encouraging. Some had increased their areas voluntarily, an outstanding example of this being the collecting of Mrs. Davidson. Mrs. Weldon also had done outstanding work. Mrs. Whitcombe was welcomed, pleasure being expressed that she had sufficiently recovered from her motor accident to be present. Mrs. Edwards, an "emergency", worker, was very cordially welcomed.
Mrs. Israel also spoke, appreciatively of the contributions.
The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:— President, Mrs. E. A. Israel; vicepresidents, Mesdames Davidson and Weldon; collectors, Mesdames Israel, Weldon, Davidson, Edwards, and the Misses Davis, M. Davis, and Jones.
The retiring secretary, Miss Inglis, received a hearty vote of thanks, and the president consented to act in the dual position of president and secretary; Mrs. Porter congratulated all upon the fine spirit displayed, and on the fact that all, were prepared to carry on next year, as change of collectors at times retards - the work.
