INJURED BY SICKLE
1 DAMAGES AWARDED t r (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 19. A girl who was injured through walking on a sickle lying on the side of a road outside a residence at Hanmer Springs'last January succeeded in an action for damages in the Magistrate's Court against the owner of the sickle. The Magistrate, Mr. H. A. Young,! 5 attributed negligence on the part of - the defendant, and awarded damages f amounting to £112 4s. s The action was brought - ! by Joy 1 Wooler against Hedley James Peek for 2 £100 general damages and £64 2s s special damages. It was claimed that s Peek had negligently left a sickle in a public road. The girl had walked a down the road to join her parents, and v had stepped on the sickle, which twistt ed, cutting a tendon in her leg. An f operation had been necessary. The case for the defence was that. 'r there had been contributory negli: i gence. i- "I am satisfied that there was no t want of care on the part of the plaintiff;' said the Magistrate.
