TOURNEY AT MIRAMAR RESULTS OF FIRST ROUND The first round of the Miramar • Ladies' Open Championship was played • this morning in ideal weather. It 1 was remarkable for the number of ' very close contests and excellent play ; on the part of some of the competitors. ' The feature of the morning was a brilliant first nine holes score of 36 (one ' under bogey) by Miss Collins and J hor ultimate defeat by Mrs. Slater. • Miss Collins was 4 up at the turn and , seemed to be set for an overwhelming win but lost touch completely in the second nine to take 48. She was 2 1 up at the fifteenth but lost the last ! three holes. Mrs. W. G. Turnbull, who won 1 up \ from Miss J. Brodie, owed her victory ' to a slight superiority around the greens. Both played their fairway I and tee shots well but Miss Brodie ; seemed to lack her usual confidence in ' the close work. The following are the results of the [ first round:— s Mrs. Banks beat Mrs. Mcllroy, 4 and 1 3. T I Mrs. W. G. Turnbull beat Miss J. : Brodie, 1 up. ' Mrs. Russell beat Mrs. D, Wilson, at t the nineteenth. Mrs. Foreman beat Mrs. Harman, 1 up. Mrs. Slater beat Miss Collins, 1 up. Miss D. Petrie beat Miss H. Griflen, 4 and 3. Miss M. Lee beat Mrs. Pearce. Mrs. Latham beat Miss Wheeler, 3 and 1. The second round is being played this afternoon. MIRAMAR HANDICAP.
