WITNESSES' DOUBTS

(Received October 19, 1.50 p.m.) HONG KONG, October 18. An inquiry into the sinking of the Chinese fishing junks off Chulongkan Point on September 22 has opened. The Japanese Consul-General ignored an invitation to attend. Fourteen survivors who were witnesses were unable 'to swear that the attacking submarine was a Japanese vessel. Exhibits included shrapnel splinters and bullets extracted from the wounded.
