RETURNS INCREASE The excess of imports usually noticed In the oversea trade of Australia during the first two months of the statistical year (beginning July 1) was in the present period greatly reduced on that of the previous period. The excess of imports for July and August was £800,000 sterling, whereas for the corresponding period of 1936-37, the excess of imports amounted to £4,486,000 sterling. The figures include the movements of gold, which today is bought and sold as a commodity. The great change in the balance was brought about by an increase of £5,728.000 sterling in exports contrasted with an increase of £2,042,000 sterling in imports. OVERSEA TRADE.
