QUESTION IN HOUSE

In the House of Representatives this afternoon Mr. S. G. Holland (National, Christchurch North) gave notice to ask the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) the following question:—

(a) Whether the Minister's attention had been directed to a report in the "Evening Post" of Thursday, October 14, wherein the Minister of Labour stated that New Zealand boot manufacturers were now at the peak of their production, and yreve employing the highest number of hands in their history; (b) whether the statement by the Minister of Labour was in accord with the information in the possession of the Minister of Industries and Commerce; (c) whether the Minister of Industries and Commerce would make a true public statement of the whole position and have such statement icabled to Australia; so that any wrong impression that might have been created by the Minister of Labour would be rectified and the people of ,the Commonwealth made aware of the correct position concerning the local manufacture of footwear in New Zealand before next Saturday, on which date certain elections would, occur in Australia?
