NORTHERN SPAIN

REBEL AIR RAID

MOUNTAIN OF DEBRIS

United Press Association—By Electric Tele-

erapb—Copyright (Received October 13, 9.45 a.m.) VALENCIA, October .12.

Insurgent aircraft, in a raid which is described as comparable with that on Guernica, wiped out the town of Cangas de Onis, 30 miles from Oviedo. Incendiary and high-explo-sive bombs reduced the town to a mountain of debris. The death roll is unknown.

■ Cangas de Onis had a population of some 12,000. It is said to have been founded by Pelaglus about 718 A.D. after the decisive victory over the Moors fought in the neighbourhood by which the reconquest of Spain from those invaders was begun.
