METHODIST CIRCUIT
QUARTERLY MEETING
The quarterly meeting of the Wellington South Methodist Circuit was held last night, the Rev. Walter Parker presiding. He was supported by Messrs. A. J. Martin and E. Feltham, circuit stewards. The balance-sheet presented by Mr. A. J. Martin revealed that on the quarter's working there was a credit balance of £15 6s 9d. The total credit balance stood at £71 14s. This accumulated in the present ministers ministry. In addition to this credit the balance-sheet showed that for several years about £52 had been placed in the Bank of New Zealand on fixed deposit. „_,,,., Messrs. A. J. Martin and E. Feltham extended a hearty invitation to the Rev. Walter Parker to remain in the circuit for a third year. Reference was made to his pulpit work, ins writing, and to the large number of strangers who came to the church. This spoke of the high value of his ministry. Mr. Trevethick stated Mr. Parker was invaluable in youth work. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr. Parker, replying, stated that he was very happy in his ministry and paid a tribute to Mrs. Parker for her effective help. Mention was made of the large number attending the weekly night meeting and the Communion services; also the number of letters of appreciation of the broadcast services both in New Zealand and Australia. It was arranged to have a suitable record put on the books of the late Mr. Binet Brown's service to the church. Mr. Martin moved this, and Mr. Feltham spoke in the highest terms of the late Mr. Brown's life and work. Arrangements were completed , for the visit of the Wanganui Choir to Trinity on Labour weekend. This choir is stated to be one of the best| in New Zealand. A special committee was set up to deal with the bicentenary of Methodism, which will be celebrated on May 24, next year. Mr. Bycroft reported on the youth activities of the church, Mr. C. Green reported on missions, and Mrs. Buchanan on the Ladies' Guild. Mr. S. Trevethick was appointed agent for the "Methodist Times." Special reference was made to the deaths of Messrs. W. A. Brown, Haynes, and Mesdames Watts and Laridsdown. In order to have arrangements well in hand, Mr. S. Smith was appointed representative to the 1938 conference with Mr. A. J. Martin as substitute.
