INDUSTRIAL ASSURANCE
New records have been established year by year in industrial assurance in the United Kingdom, and 1936 continued this progress. A statistical summary compiled by Mr. John Fox, In-' I dustrial Assurance Commissioner, shows that at the end of last year there were 96,191,928 paying and free policies in force and that the funds of the companies and societies totalled £385,063,491. • .. The companies during last year effected 8,258,151 new assurances. Their total premium income was £53,633,351, and interest £14,638,022. Their payments included claims on death, £17,202,619, on maturity, £5,372,526, surrenders £4,547,375, expenses of management £17 285.240 and shareholders' dividends £1,804,021. The number of new assurances during 1936 by the collecting societies was 2,682,260. The total premium m come was £12.761,208, and £2,800 896 for interest. The payments included claims on death £4,347,304, on maturity £1,205,609, surrenders £439,052, and - expenses of management £5,124,257.
