His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral presided at a meeting of the Executive Council this morning.

The Rt. Hon G. W. Forbes, M.P., and Mrs. Forbes, arrived in Wellington this morning from the south.

Mr. A. W. Nisbet, secretary of the Wellington Manufacturers' Association, arrived in Wellington from the south this morning.

Sir Robert Anderson, accompanied by Lady Anderson, arrived in Wellington from the south today.

Mr. A. de B. Brandon was elected a life member of the Automobile Association (Wellington) at the annual meeting last night.

; Mr. J. J. Williamson's death since the last annual meeting was referred to by the, president, Sir Alexander Roberts, at last night's annual meeting of the Automobile Association (Wellington). The late Mr.. Williamson, saiu Sir Alexander, was a member of the association from its inception. A resolution was carried, members standing in silence, expressing the association'* appreciation of Mr. Williamson's interest in its affairs during his lifetime and recording the association's deepest condolences with the relatives.

Major N. W. McD. Weir, New Zealand Staff Corps, who commanded the New Zealand Coronation Contingent and remained in England for some months on other duty, is a passenger from London by the Rangitiki, due at Auckland on October 20.

Mr. J. Caradus, District Land Registrar at New Plymouth, has been appointed Registrar-General of Lands. Mr. Caradus served in the Auckland Office of the Lands and Deeds Department before going to Blenheim as District Registrar. He was then stationed at Nelson, and has since been at New Plymouth for a number of years.

Councillor E. H. Andrews and Mr. A. H. Bridge (City Land Surveyor) will represent the Christchurctf City Council at the annual meeting of the Town Planning. Institute of New Zealand, to be held in Wellington towards the end of the month. .

The Rev. J. M. Beaufort, formerly of St. Peter's School, Cambridge, land, has been appointed Vicar of Shawbury, Salop.
