P, B|wchen (Government, Wairau), who |)d that there had been very little attempt to criticise the public works plan of the Government, There had wen some criticism of the work at the tftwera aerodrome, but he pointed out that owing to the soggy nature of the ground, the area had to be fieldirained. The speaker referred to river protection work, which, he said, had been carried out with sucess. The saving of farm land from flooding :ould- scarcely be called uneconomic. Sverywhere he had been he had found hat the men on Publio Works were setting to - with a will. It was tantanount to insulting them to call them ■eflef workers, as they were playing » v«y important part in the developnent of the country. Touching on the guaranteed price, tfr.vMeachen said that since it had; 7e«n introduced he had received lundreds of congratulatory letters Iron farmers in his electorate, and tot one complaint (Proceeding.)
