VISIT TO AUSTRALIA
NEW ZEALAND CRUISERS
The Minister of Defence (the Hon. F Jones) announced last evening that the two cruisers of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, H.M.S. Achilles, flagship of Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond, and H.M.b. Leander, commanded by Captain J. G. Rivett-Carnac, will visit Australia during the coming summer. The cruise will be in accordance with the plan for regular interchanges of visits between the division and the Royal Australian Navy, which sent a squadron to New Zealand earlier this year. Both the Achilles and the Leander will leave Auckland on January 20, and their subsequent itineraries will be as follows:—Achilles: Sydney, January 25 to February 7; Jervis Bay, February 7 to 15; Melbourne, February 18 to 26. Leander: Melbourne, Jan-' uary 25 to February 7; Jervis Bay, February 9 to 15; Hobart, February 18 to 24. After leaving Australia, the Achilles, will visit the West Coast Sounds from March 2 to 7, and will then observe the following programme for a New Zealand coastal cruise:—Bluff, March 7 to 10; Dunedin, March 11 to 16; Auck-i land, March 19 to 22; Russell, March 22 to 30; Wellington, April 1 to 19; I Hauraki Gulf, April 21 to 28; return | to Auckland, April 28. . j The Leander will return direct from Hobart to Auckland, arriving on March 1 and leaving on the following day for the following coastal cruise:—Wellington, March 4 to April 4; Plcton and Marlborough Sound, April 4 to 9; Nelson, April 9 to 12; Wellington, April 13 to 19; Hauraki Gulf, April 21 to 28; return to Auckland, April 28.
