JAPANESE AT SHANGHAI
ADVANCE AT KIANGWAN
PLANS-FOR A BIG OFFENSIVE (United Tress Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received October 12, 9.55 a.m.) SHANGHAI, October 11. The cessation of the rain has enabled the Japanese thrusts to be resumed at Kiangwan, where an advance of a mile on a four-mile front is claimed. General Iwanc Matsui, the Japanese Commander-in-Chief, declares that preparations for the big offensive are almost complete. The Chinese report that General Li Chung-yen, Governor of Kwangsi i Province, formerly a bitter opponent of General Chiang Kai-shek and who led a revolt last year, is aeroplaning to Nanking to offer to mobilise three million men to assist General Chiang Kai-shek. Peking reports that despite deep snow the Japanese have occupied Liangclicng, 50 miles south-cast of Suiyuan city, on which Mongolian cavalry arc advancing after occupying Patow, the terminus of the Suiyuan railway.
