Mortimer Jon?s, of Hastings, is a passenger by the Rangitiki, due at Auckland from London on October 20. Captain A. Bongard, New Zealand Staff Corps, at present area officer .at Palmerston North, has been. notified of his transfer to the post of area officer at Dunedin. Mr. F. S. Driller returned to Wellington yesterday from a trip to Australia, the United States, and England. Mr. G. McGregor, of Wellington, left for Auckland by the Limited express last night. Captain p. C. Waters, of the Union Steam Ship Company, left for the north by the. Limited express last night. Major A. J. Edney left for the north by the Limited express last night. A resolution of sympathy with Councillor C. J. Ashton, who is at present in hospital, was passed by the Lower Hutt Borough Council last evening. Mr. W. J. A. Chartres, manager of Messrs.' Ross and Glendining, Ltd., Wellington, and his wife, who have been on holiday in Australia for the past five weeks, have returned to Wellington. , Mr. H. R. Spanjer, of Christchurch, arrived in Wellington yesterday after a six months' trip to Great Britain and Europe. He will leave for Christchurch tonight. • Dr. F. J. Williams, medical officer of Papua, who has been attending tha International Jubilee Esperanto Congress, held in Warsaw last August, left Wellington today' with Mrs. Williams by the Van Rees for Sydney' en rout« to New Guinea. Mr. F. Castle was last evening appointed a councillor at' Upper Hutt to fill the vacancy in the West Ward caused by the resignation of Mr. A. Howell. Mr. Castle is a member and ex-chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board and is an ex-Wellington city councillor. The Upper Hutt Borough Councillor filled the vacancy by special resolution to avoid the expenses of a by-election, in view of the fact that the municipal elections will be held in May of next year. The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers), who will preside over the civil session of the Supreme Court, in Weilington next week, will then go. to Wanganui for the opening of the sessions there on November 1. Mr. Justice Reed will preside at th« Supreme Court in New Plymouth, where the sessions begin on November 8. He will conduct the criminal session in Wellington next Monday. Mr. Justice Ostler will go to Napier for the Supreme Court sessions starting on October 26, after which he will attend the sessions beginning at Giaborne on November 2. , Mr, Justice 'Smith will leave for Palmerston North this week to preside at the sittings of the Supreme Court beginning next Tuesday. Mr'. Justice Northcroft will conduct the Supreme Court sessions at Blenheim (November 16). and Nelson (November 23). : Mr. P. H. Bennett left for the north by the Limited express yesterday. Mr. J. M. Dunn, manager of the Plaza Theatre, has returned to Wellington after an extended holiday. Mr. W. D. Murie is to leave Wellington tonight for the South Island. Dr. J. J. North will leave Wellington tonight for the south. Mr. R. Nordell, of Johnsonville, returned by the Awatea yesterday from a tour of Sweden, England, Scotland, Jersey, and Guernsey.
