PARLIAMENTARY BROADCASTS

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—lt appears that the time has arrived when some concerted action must be made by radio listeners as a body, to register an emphatic protest against the monopolising of our highpowered stations for the broadcasting of proceedings.

The Government is obviously unmindful of the fact that funds supplied by the general public are being employed for purposes never contemplated nor authorised by them. On Tuesday last a very notable symphonic concert was given in the Wellington Town Hall and I and the members of my household joyfully anticipated a most pleasurable and uplifting broadcast. Our chagrin, when ■ we discovered that the broadcast of this excellent entertainment was assigned to the low-powered 2YC, while 2VA j had been appropriated for the*broadcastf of what can merely be termed "a political wrangle" cannot adequately be expressed in words. One wholeheartedly sympathises with our excellent and learned Director of Broad- 1 casting. ' It is suggested that immediate and appropriate action should be taken by . listeners' organisations throughout the i Dominion and that a plebiscite should be taken as to the wishes of listeners in this matter. I, the members of my family, and our associates would willingly make a substantial donation to any fund which might be required for such a purpose.—l am, etc., COUNTRY LISTENER. (
