MELBOURNE CUP PAYMENT
"A LOT FOR HIS MONEY"
"On behalf of Mr. W. Dring, who ourchased the horses in New Zealand, Mr S Foster shipped three horses to Adelaide from Melbourne yesterday, says the Australian "Trotting Record of September 22. "The- trio came direct from New Zealand, and had a rough passage of 14 days- In Plain Pearl Mr- Dring got a lot for his money, as the well-bred mare (she is by Wrack from Pearl Pointer) is about 17J hands high Another of the trio is Chancellor, a seven-year-old gelding by Peterwah from Black Gold. As a two-year-old he was a winner, and ran third in the Sapling Stakes in 3min 22sec—better than a 2min 15sec rate. As a four-year-old he bettered 2min 14sec in winning a race of one mile and a half, and bettered 2m:n llsec in winning over a distance of 10 furlongs. He eventually did 2min 9Jsec, running third in a mile race at Addington. Torquemada, the remaining horse, is a five-year-old brother to Indianapolis, but the gelding is still a maiden."
At the arst acceptance the following horses still held their ground in the MELBOURNE COT, £10,000 and £200 trophy; 2 miles. (Bun Tuesday, November 2.)
