AT THE MILK DEPOT
"Recently, with two friends, I visited the milk depot. It is so fascinating to watch the empty bottles being put into the steriliser and to see them coming out the other end, dividing into pints and quarts, and moving along a belt, They go round a circle where the milk comes into the bottles so fast that it looks like a solid blockAround another circle they move to ■be capped and so tp the men who put them ; into boxes, which, meanwhile, have been steamed ready for use again. We were shown the huge containers, the stables, the recreation room, the glowing fyrnace, the freezing machinery, and the milk being tested for butterfat." "AUTE" (13). Island Bay.
