CONCERT PROGRAMME
HUTT VALLEY Y.M.C.A.
The ladies' auxiliary of the Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A. held a very successful concert recently in the Gymnasium Hall, Cuba Street, Petone. A stage erected at one end, and decorated with large baskets of Iceland poppies and foliage made a beautiful setting for the varied programme presented.
The first part opened with a bracket of four glees by Mrs. Taylor's choir, from Lower Hutt. A skipping dance was performed by Miss Judy Lewis, of Petone. Mr;. Schmidt, Miss Pryde, and Miss Wells sang "Ye Banks and Braes" as a trio. An elocutionary item by Mr. Ron Wakelin caused much amusement, as also did his encore "A Woman Scorned," an original musical monologue. Mrs. Corkhill and Miss Pryde gave solos, both ladies receiving well-deserved encores. A chorus and dance by Mrs. Taylor's choir, and Miss M. Barton were much appreciated.
A one-act play, "Little Glass Houses," a comedy based on the manners of the early nineteenth century and costumed
accordingly, proved highly diverting. Mrs. Miller was the producer, and the cast, which ably acted their parts, included Mrs. D. O'Neill, Mrs. Porter, Mrs. Amies, Mrs. May, and Mrs. Miller. Miss M. Pocknall sang two soprano solos, followed by duets by Mrs. Millward and Mr. F. Bryant. The choir also sang a bracket of two. glees, the solo parts being taken by Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Potter. The accompanists were Mesdames Andrews, Taylor, Boyd, and Pallister.
