PALESTINE

BRITISH-ISRAEL LECTURE

At a British-Israel lantern lecture given under the auspices of Mr. W. E. Wilson at the Trades Hall last Thursday, Mr. S. T. Watkins, the lecturer, chose as his subject the question as to whether it would be the Jew or the Arab who would ultimately inherit the land of Palestine. Mr. W. E. Wilson presided. After demonstrating that t.|ie AngloSaxon people, Great Britain, and America hold their position as inheritors of the blessings passed on Joseph, by virtue of the fact that they are the latter-day continuation of the House of Joseph, the speaker drew attention to a book written as far back as 1889 by Dr. Aldersmith, a 8.1. believer, m which he says: "Those who now laugh at us will have their eyes opened when they see Britain as the lost House of Joseph delivering Jerusalem from the Turks in 1917." History proved Dr. Aldersmith to be correct, and the key to the Scriptures is found when it is recognised that these two great AngloSaxon nations are none other than the House of Joseph. Mr. Watkins then surveyed the present situation in Palestine and went on to show that the Jews regarded the land of Palestineas "A National Home for the Jews" vide the Balfour Declaration sponsored by the British Government. The Arabs, on the other hand, had dreams of establishing an independent Arabian Empire, hopes built up by the late Colonel Lawrence, and revealed in the recently-disclosed plot formulated by the Grand Mufti. The three elements to be reckoned with, continued the speaker, are the British mandatory authorities, the Jews, and the Arabs. The Scriptures, however, were very clear on the subject, for the Arabs, as descendants of Abraham through Ishmael ''were to dwell in the presence of all his brethren" (Gen. 16), and could not build up an independent empire. Again, the Jews would not create a great new political commonwealth as they desired, but must return to Joseph, to whom alone was promised the Great Commonwealth of Nations. Britain, then, as Joseph did in Egypt, was to act as controller, and Judah and Joseph were to be united. 1 Mr. Brown will be the lecturer next Thursday.
