REPLY TO CRITICISM

ASSOCIATION'S ACTIVITIES

Recently the Eastbourne Borough Council took .exception to the action of the Eastbourne Ratepayers' AEBociation in attending to matters in which the council had already taken action, and a reply to the criticism was received at last evening's meeting of the Borough Council.

The secretary of the Eastbourne Ratepayers' Association (Mr. F. C. Ayson) wrote stating that the association learned with regret that the council should have thought fit to take exception to^ the action of the association in communicating with other bodies. The council's previous dealings with the. association would show that the association had always endeavoured to work in harmony with and assist the council. The association reserved the right to use its own judgment in pursuing its activities in the interests of the district. It was gratfying to note that the joint efforts of the council and the association had resulted in more satisfactory control of pedestrian traffic at the Customhouse Quay crossing in Wellington. The association received a satisfactory reply from tlief chief traffic inspector that a traffic officer would be detailed for duty at the crossing whenever possible and also received a further reply that the matter of equipping this crossing, with automatic signals would receive further consideraiton when installations of this nature were being contemplated.
