The middleweight contest betweeii Marcel Thil (France) and Fred Apostoli (U.S.A.) was won by Apostoli on a technical knock-out in- the ■ tenth,
round. " '~,,' Thil opened with whirlwind blows, boring in -with both hands, and smothering Apostoli with jabs, hooks, and swings from every angle. Apostoli was on the defensive throughout the first three rounds, though he almost floored-Thil m the second.with a heavy right to the jaw. Thil, however, scored heavily at close quarters, savagely pounding Apostoli'i stomach: . . . .; ' Apostoli found his feet in the fourth round, and staggered Thil with two rights to the jaw, after which he jolted the Frenchman with a series oi rights to the head and body, capturing the round. Apostoli also scored well in the fifth round, but was warned for low hitting. , .„. . The fighters traded punches willingly ■ Thil winning the sixth and the eighth rounds and Apostoli the seventh. Apostoli gave a fireworkc display in the ninth, and ripped a succession of hard rights to Thils body. Then, leaping in, he shot a heavy right to Thil's jaw and pounded the .Frenchman's body. Their heads collided heavily and Thil suffered a deep cut above the right eye. _ > Apostoli again attacked with both hands in the tenth. Thil gamely swapped punches, though blood was streaming from his cut eye. The referee stopped the fight after 44 seconds owing to the excessive bleed-
