TEA TRADE IMPROVES

IE exports continue as they have begun, 1937-38 should be a good year for the Indian tea industry. During April India shipped 700,0001b more than in the corresponding month last year, and May improved on these figures. Iran is still ari improved buyer, and so is Russia. It is also good to see the marked increase in imports of black tea into the United States. As the American official year ends on June 30, comparable figures are for the ten months ended in April. These show that whereas in 1935 imports were 50,303.4741b, in 1936 they were 51,823,4261b, and in 1937 55,199,5911b. Tea propaganda began on an intensive scale in 1935, and these are some o£ the tangible results. The view is widely held that, given a reasonabletime, this propaganda will prove an excellent investment.
