The House of Representatives met at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon.

Mr. K. J. Holyoake (National, MotuekaV gave notice to ask the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) whether the speech made by the High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr. W. J. Jordan) before the League of Nations, in which he advocated placing Spain under a League mandate, was made with the full cognisance and approval of the New Zealand Government; whether the British Foreign Secretary and other representatives of the Empire were consulted prior to the making of the speech; and if so, whether they were in agreement.

Mr. Wright: You ought to know that.

The Cawthron Institute Trust Board Rating Exemption Bill was introduced and read a first time on the motion of Mr. H. Atmore (Independent, Nelson). .
