TITAHI DEFEATED

MARGIN OF FOUR ,

GAMES

.MANOR PARK'S SUCCESS

Perfect weather prevailed in Wellington over the weekend and with the majority of courses in first-class condition some excellent golf was played.

The Watt Cup match between Manor Park and Titahi, played at Manor Park on Saturday, resulted in a win for the former team by seven games to three with two games halved. A Ranish Cup match between the same club on the same course resulted in a draw, four wins each, and two games halved. The Titahi and Manor Park ladies player a Mary Alward Cup match at Titahi on Saturday and a match between Judgeford and Paekakarifci wa splayed on the Judgeford links. The Hutt Club paid its annual visit to the Warairapa ovei' the weekend and at the Misamar Club on Saturday the qualifying rounds for the club championship were played. Conditions at Manor Park could not have been better. The fairways possibly lacked a little in run, but the greens were first-class and a credit to the club. There was just enough wind to temper the heat of the sun.

Considerable interest was taken in the battle between the top players, F. Page, of Manor Park, and Jack Black. Page in recent matches has had signal success, including a defeat of J. Logan, Shandori, Black's conqueror last week, in one game. But Black came home, 1 up. after a round of exciting play.

BALL KNOCKED IN.

.Black's success, was achieved unusually. He had led by two holes until the 13th and 14th, short ones which he dropped, and he was unquestionably in a position to lose the seventeenth, for he had missed his 4, and Page had a putt in the bag for a win and a lead of a hole. Black's ball was on the lip and Page had a twofooter with two inches of the hole showing. He had been spending time over his putts—too much as a matter of fact—and he deliberated again for a minute or so before playing the shot. He putted and knocked Black in for a 4 and a win for Titahi. Page could have played safely and gone for his 5 and a half. Even so he should have holed the putt. j There were notable incidents in some j of the other matches. C. G. Moriarty had a day on and he fizzled out in 34, equal to .par. At that time, lie was 6 up and Swinburn, /his opponent, had no answer. E. Butler was 2 down at the turn to Parker, of Titahi, who had, at 39, taken two strokes less than Butler for the outward run. But Butler came back well in 37, one over par, and Parker's 40 gave Butler the win.
