ASSOCIATION

AULD MEMORIAL CUP

MARIST BEAT WATERSIDE

It is unavoidable but unfortunate that the climax to Association football in Wellington has to be played on possibly the worst ground in Wellington. Marist and Waterside, fighting out the semi-final of the Auld Memorial Cup at the Kilbirnie Stadium, had to contend with dust, lack of turf, and unevenness. The standard, as a result, was poor. The game was a 1-all draw at full time, and in the extra time that was played Marist won 2-1. Extra time was also played by Swifts and Lower Hutt in the final of the first B division Victory Cup, Hutt winning by 4 goals to 2.
